Promptness Prize:  Sylvia Wood

June 10th and September 9th Rep. Council Minutes were approved as written.  Evelyn made the motion to accept.  2nd by Michael.

President Report:  Evelyn is being honored by the military for an award this weekend.  Congratulations to Evelyn.

Helen Hunt Jackson had 5 teachers who were involved with HTA/CTA in having their salary and STRS benefits restored.  The restoration goes back 3 years.

There was a special school board meeting in Idyllwild.  Sally Cawthon, LaFaye Platter and Mary Wulfsberg’s contracts were up for renewal.  Their contracts include perks such as a $700 a month car allowance and an 8% tax annuity that is given back to them in salary.  All 7 school board members voted on the renewal of the contracts.  Lisa DeForest, Marilyn Forst and Joe Woijik all voted NO on the contracts.  Bill Sanborn, Charlotte Jones, Gregg Figgins and Phillis Petri all voted YES in favor of the contracts.

Last June Dartmouth voted as a site for an advisory period within their school day.  There has now been a new vote and the advisory period is gone.  They are now operating on 6th periods.

There is a Region 4 CTA conference this coming weekend.  Storme Freeman will be attending the “I Can Do It” training in order to become a Trainer of Trainers for HTA.

Comp. Time has been an issue.  5 periods of comp. time = 1 day off.  Please encourage staff members to take their time off for budgetary reasons.

We have included a copy of the 2010-2011 DRAFT CALENDAR.  Please look it over and make suggestions to HTA.  Wednesdays are HTA days…there has been a question regarding the scheduling of secondary evening conferences on HTA Wednesdays.  Also, it has been suggested that we look at making Veteran’s Day a 4 day weekend next year since it will fall on a Thursday (ADA issues?)

Please see the lilac colored paper.  CTA has a local survey that can be filled out.  We suggest that Reps hold a 10 min. meeting to have staff voice their concerns.  Return the form by November 20th.

***DSST- This has been brought up in Cabinet several times.  District Admin are coming through with site administrators.  Teachers shouldn’t be named or identified by room number in the reports.

SWINE FLU SHOTS-The district is not providing them, only the regular flu shots.  Please see your health care provider for more information.

Resolution 1929 in the board packet-Please see all 3 bullets.  See the 2011-2012 projected cuts.

LEUSD Handout-See their proposal for unfair grievance/labor practice.

Site Concerns:

***Transportation has inconsistencies with field trips.  Information should have been sent out to school sites/members.

***Benchmarks---staff members aren’t sure about new benchmarks, timeline grid, etc.

***United Way is being pushed by APs at some school sites.

***Inclement Weather---who decides when/why to call it?

***English Now teachers are seeing an increase in workload/prep

2nd Vice President Report:  Nicole reviewed the site concerns that were brought up in our last Cabinet meeting on Sept. 16th.  Some of the items discussed:  no cell phones are allowed in elementary classrooms (students), Spec. Ed. continues to have caseload management issues, DO is working on these concerns.  Transfer process (September Shuffle) will now be in writing prior to shuffling next go around, Transportation will send out a memo letting staff know that bus size has been reduced , therefore more busses may need to be booked per field trip. Benchmark tests should come with student labels after the first go around.  Benchmarks were created to align specific standards and target specific skills.

Treasurer Report:  Mark let us know that so far we have 80 members who have opted out of PAC.  Their money will now go into the general fund.  PAC is used for local election purposes only (school board elections).

Evelyn San G. Report:  See page 11 in packet.  Reps need to talk with their members.  HR EM training will be in Ontario on November 6 & 7th.  1267 Retirement—they are trying to reinstate the longevity bonuses for 30, 31 and 32 years.  Contact state representatives.  Go to CTA’s website to make suggestions for how CTA money is spent---can also fill out a form and return it to the HTA office.  There is a San G. training on January 23rd for anyone interested in attending.

New Business:  John G. made a motion to direct the Executive Board to create a press release to be read at the next school board meeting and be sent to the local newspaper as well as our general membership.  Items to be discussed include librarian/health tech reduction in hours, field trips, perks of district administration, etc.  There was a call for the question and then the motion passed.
