Hemet Teachers Association

HTA Rep Council Minutes
November 18, 2009

President Jerry Hall called the meeting to order at 4 pm.

The promptness award was given to Aylssa Westmoreland.

The minutes were approved as read. There was a motion by Michael Swain, seconded by Georgette Johnsurd.

Presidents report:

Jerry went over the Special Budget Update that the district presented to the board. Five furlough days would be a 2 ½% pay cut for teachers. We have turned over the HUSD budget to CTA so they can analysis it for us.

The district may be offering a SERP again this year. No details yet.

The district wants input from the sites on where to make cuts. The district has mentioned freezing step and column but they don’t have a plan on how to restore it when things improve.

The district would like to have everything in place by Feb 15th.

CLMS is going to honoring 2 Hemet teachers and HTA will pay for one of the tables for the honoree and Martinrex will pick up the cost of the other table.

There was training by CTA for our Special Ed teachers.

Jerry talked to the board, as Rep Council directed, about the Administrators contracts.

Bridgette Weisse needs catastrophic leave help.

Take a look at the latest calendar draft and send input to Dawn Lawerence

State Council Report:

CTA/STRS Robert Hudson has been appointed to serve on the committee to look into how STRS is doing. 60% of the money retirees receive is from investments 40% from current contributions.

Insurance Committee:

The transition from the Orange Co. Foundation to Blue Shield went very smoothly. Only 4% of the members use mail order prescription, it would save money if more would do it. We only used $800,000 for the run out.

Cabinet Report:

An email needs to be sent out again to teachers not just office managers regarding how many students can ride a bus for field trips and the cost of a bus.

The benchmark grid will be sent out again to teachers.

DSST: They people doing the DSST are checking on Principals not on teachers. Making sure that the same message is being delivered to teachers.

English Now is a concern. There is massive amount of prep, no time cards, walk throughs are happening. People are teaching and testing other teacher’s students.

Site Concerns:

What is the policy on a principal changing grades and comments on report cards? The principal can’t force you to change your grade or comments.

The patience award went to Jason Hogan.

There was a motion to adjourn at 5 pm by Georgette Johnsurd, second by Evelyn Kight Moore.
